Your path to recovery starts with a single call
Getting Started
If you are reading this page, something urgent brought you here. Maybe the situation at home has become unmanageable, maybe a doctor delivered a warning you cannot ignore, or maybe you simply woke up today knowing that things cannot continue this way. Whatever the crisis, DMH Rehab in Santa Cruz is ready to meet you exactly where you are right now. Our admissions team answers calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week at (209) 593-1808, and our single goal on that first call is to move you from panic toward a concrete plan.
From the moment you reach out, our coordinators handle insurance verification, clinical pre-assessment, and arrival logistics so that you can focus on one thing: getting here safely. Within hours of your call, we can have a bed prepared in our 31-bed facility staffed by 56 clinicians and support professionals. Over the past nine years, we have welcomed more than 3,600 people through these doors, and every one of them started with the same uncertain phone call you are considering right now. The chaos you feel today does not have to define tomorrow.

Frequently Asked Questions
How quickly can I be admitted to DMH Rehab?
We know that when you finally decide to get help, waiting feels unbearable. In most cases, we can complete your insurance verification and clinical pre-assessment within a few hours of your call to (209) 593-1808. Many of our clients arrive at our Santa Cruz facility the same day or the very next morning. We keep beds available specifically for urgent admissions because we understand that momentum matters.
What does medical detox actually feel like?
It is completely natural to feel anxious about detox -- most people who call us share that same worry. Our medical team monitors you around the clock for 3 to 7 days, using medication-assisted treatment to ease withdrawal symptoms like nausea, tremors, and anxiety. You will have a private or semi-private room, regular check-ins with nursing staff, and comfort measures like hydration therapy and nutritional support. The goal is to get you physically stable so you can think clearly again.
Will my insurance cover treatment?
There is a good chance it will. We work with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, United Healthcare, Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare, and several other major providers. Our admissions team handles the verification process for you, so you do not have to navigate phone trees or decode policy language on your own. If your plan has limitations, we will walk you through alternative payment options before you arrive.
How long will I need to stay?
That depends on what your body and mind need. Medical detox typically lasts 3 to 7 days. If you transition into residential treatment, programs run from 30 to 90 days based on your clinical assessment. Outpatient care follows for 8 to 12 weeks after that. We know the time commitment feels daunting, but our team reassesses your plan regularly and adjusts it as you progress. You are never locked into a timeline that no longer fits.
Can my family visit me during treatment?
Absolutely. We schedule family visitation on weekends because connection with the people you care about is an important part of healing. Phone access is available during limited designated hours. We also offer family therapy sessions that help your loved ones understand what you are going through and how they can support your recovery without enabling old patterns.
What if I have a mental health condition along with my addiction?
You are not alone in that -- many of the people we treat at DMH Rehab are managing depression, anxiety, PTSD, or another condition alongside substance use. Our dual diagnosis program treats both issues at the same time with a coordinated team of therapists and a psychiatrist. Separating the two never works long-term, and we have seen over nine years and more than 3,600 clients that integrated treatment is what actually leads to lasting stability.
